Day one of the Healthy Family 007 contest ~ I started out right and trying to create a blog to reward my morning exercise. .. took my daily hike up to Horizon View park (see picture ) above our house. It's about a mile loop and has a nice aerobic hill involved to get there. What you can't see in the picture is that I am wearing my new soft and stretchy hand knit pumpkin orange socks which took me two months to complete. The big leaf maple trees here have leaves bigger than your head and as you can see (picture of tree) the trunks are all green and furry and yummy to look at.
Oh, and "too many projects", my blog title... there are the dozen christmas stockings for homeless kids...wool felt and holiday print cotton...easy, fun and the coastguard women fill them with hand knit goods and distribute them to shelters throughout the Puget Sound area. Then there is the knitting.. the five-oh it is out of control-pairs of socks, four scarves, three hats and a bunch of sewing and felting projects all in the hopperat once. Nothing like retirement, oh yeah, I forgot...I simply HAVE to get a job@#%^*!
The weather today is clear...really clean air up here..and delightfully cold. I raked huge piles of leaves, potted up a shallots and kitchen herbs to have a pot nearby and now take myself off to the store for healthy stocking of the pantry.
Dare not shun the low legume or you'll be early to your tomb. ~ Elsa Bouman, November 5, 2007...yes, that's an original thought poem I just had!
Back to the contest and a little side note on exercise...I discovered the pleasure of Farking...know what that is? It's a wonderful tedium-reducing technique that those clever Swedish folks thought up. It's great. I read an article on it. When you are walking pick a "goalpost" e.g., a tree, a fire hydrant, a street sign...then sprint to that marker..like maybe 30 yards or so. My version of this is to simply alter what I am doing until I reach my marker. Maybe work my upper body or walk backwards or jog or increase activity somehow..this way you work a bit harder for a manageable time and it adds interest to your routine.
Well, let me know what you think of my blog...any advice? Will? I guess a blog by nature is a self-indulgent medium, but maybe think of it as a colorful email? But then I guess it should be maintained and it definitely is the big time sink! Oh, well fun to do. Check back tomorrow for healthy holiday recipe, this week's word puzzle (yes exercise those little gray cells with some "Brain Aerobics") and other morale boosters.
ba-bye,
